This Intel-Owned Company Just Made One Of The Best Fitness Trackers You Can Buy The Basis PeakBusiness Insider/ Lisa Eadicicco Fitness trackers have evolved a lot over the past several years. The sensors are getting better, the apps are becoming more polished and functional, and the devices themselves look more attractive. Basis' new Peak fitness tracker meets all of this criteria. The Basis Peak is a $199 fitness device that comes with a screen so that it can serve as a smartwatch, too. Basis has kept the functionality simple though, and the Peak's focus remains on health and fitness just like the company's previous offerings. Still, there are a few key factors that make the Peak different from Basis' other models: the design of the watchface itself is slimmer, the heart rate monitor is much improved, the screen is now touch-friendly and will soon be able to display notifications from your smartphone. After spending some time with the Peak, I found it to be

Deca Sports Extreme Review The latest entry in the long line of minigame compilations is Deca Sports Extreme, a collection of 10 different sporting activities, ranging from the truly "extreme" trampoline, to the "craziness" of bowling, with a few others thrown into the fray. While there are many sporting events to participate in, none of them are deep or memorable, making this a sports mix that should be avoided at all costs. Team GameSpot trying to dominate on the hard court. Though each controls differently, all 10 events are fairly bare-bones activities. The trampoline has you time button presses while in the air for points, and sport blowdarts has you use the unit's gyroscope to aim and blow into the 3DS's microphone to shoot a dart. Then there is ice hockey, which has you using the touch screen to pass and shoot instead of using standard buttons. The problem is that the difference between passing and shooting is so slight that it's much too

Sports TV viewers getting older According to a striking study of Nielsen television viewership data of 25 sports, all but one have seen the median age of their TV viewers increase during the past decade. The study, conducted exclusively for SportsBusiness Journal by Magna Global, looked at live, regular-season game coverage of major sports across both broadcast and cable television in 2000, 2006 and 2016. It showed that while the median age of viewers of most sports, except the WTA, NBA and MLS, is aging faster than the overall U.S. population, it is doing so at a slower pace than prime-time TV. "There is an increased interest in short-term things, like stats and quick highlights," said Brian Hughes, senior vice president of audience intelligence and strategy at Magna Global USA. "That availability ofinformation has naturally funneled some younger viewers away from TV." None of the properties contacted contested the data, but most pointed to digital consum

9 can’t-miss sports events to watch this weekend It’s getting to be unbearably hot outside, sports are ending — summer is upon us. This could be the last weekend we get to see any NBA or NHL until the fall, so we might as well enjoy it while we can. The exciting thing about the end of basketball and hockey is that we can throw all our energy into baseball at the best possible time. This season is already shaping up to be surprising and awesome, which is going to make the road to the playoffs amazing. WHAT TO WATCH All times Eastern. NBA The Warriors and Cavaliers could meet for the last time on Friday night with Game 4 of the NBA Finals on ABC at 9 p.m. No matter what happens, it’s a win-win. Either Golden State sweeps and basketball has invoked its own mercy rule, or we get a few days to make a TON of “3-1 lead” jokes before Game 5 on Monday night. NHL It could all be over Sunday. The Stanley Cup will be in attendance in Nashville for Game 6, starting at 8 p.m. on NBC.

ESPN research on biases and coverage says 'it's you, not us' Everyone seems to feel some type of way about ESPN. Too liberal. Too political. Too personality-driven. In the wake of large-scale layoffs that saw the departure of several high-profile talents, and over 100 journalists and commentators in all, the "worldwide leader" faced its critics head-on this week when it released results from a Langer Research Associates' survey from May. Many of ESPN's critics would probably fall between the 30-somethings to 50-somethings age range. But according to the research, ESPN was the highest-rated full-time cable network among men and adults aged 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 last year for the third year in a row. Former ESPN anchor Sara Walsh posts emotional motherhood story The results go on to say that: - Approximately 64 percent of respondents believe ESPN is getting it right in terms of mixing sports news and political issues. - The proportion of v

WordPress 4.8 arrives with link boundaries and widget improvements, drops WMV and WMA support WordPress.org today launched WordPress 4.8, which adds a slew of new features to the blog management tool “to express yourself and represent your brand.” You can download the new release, available in 38 languages, now from WordPress.org/Download (8.5MB). WordPress is a content management system (CMS) that powers 25 percent of the web. The latest version is dubbed “Evans,” in honor of jazz pianist and composer William John “Bill” Evans. WordPress 4.8 introduces link boundaries. If you’ve ever tried updating a link or the text around a link and found that the wrong text ends up being linked, this is for you. Link boundaries streamline the process of editing links, hopefully resulting in less frustration. As for the widget improvements, you can now add an image to a widget without needing to know code, add any video from the Media Library to a sidebar on your site, and add a widget f
