How to create a Web page that will boost business and build your brand Last week I was approached by a New York Post journalist, Faye Penn, who found me by Googling ‘graphic designer NYC‘, of which I am fortunate enough to have the #1 search position for. Faye wanted to interview me for her next article on the topic of building a web business. I happily accepted and I soon found myself answering a variety of questions on the topics of SEO, social media, branding and online business. A few days later, I had a photographer around to my apartment in NY and today the article went to print. You can view the article in print below or read it online here: You.com: How to create a Web page that will boost business and build your brand. For those playing at home, you can find the article as the cover story for the Work section and can be found on Page 39, of the Monday 18th 2011, New York Post. Below is a short snippet from the article: By one measure, Jacob Cass is the top graphi

Parenting in SA: one size doesn't fit all Questioning parenting self-help books from a cultural perspective. There are a few established "rules" for being a good parent. Praise your children for their achievements, big or small. Be warm and happy when you’re around them. Smile at them and stay upbeat. When it comes to babies, make lots of face to face verbal contact. Parenting matters and certain ways of parenting are better than others. But how much does where you live or grew up influence how you parent? And are the same parenting techniques relevant in every setting? This is what I h

Gold dips as U.S. jobs data bolsters dollar Gold dipped on Thursday, pressured by a slightly firmer dollar, on the back of the firsttranche of U.S. data due to provide further clues on whether interest rates will rise this month. Private payrolls increased by 253,000, well ahead of expectations. Economists surveyed by Reuters expected the report to show that private payrolls grew by 185,000 in May, from 174,000 in April. The ADP figures come ahead of the U.S. Labor Department's more comprehensive non-farm payrolls report on Friday, which includes both public and private-sector employment. "We are getting important data today and tomorrow, and gold is very much dependent on how the dollar and yields will react to that data, so it's a bit of a waiting game," said Georgette Boele, commodities strategist at ABN AMRO in Amsterdam Spot gold was down 0.25 percent at $1,264.92 per ounce. On Wednesday, it touched a session high of $1,273.74 an ounce, its strongest

How Much Money Do You Really Need in Your Savings Account? Bank savings accounts don't exactly earn you a huge return these days: in fact, most big banks are offering a fraction of a percent in interest on their savings accounts. However, savings accounts do serve an important purpose as a safety net. Should you run into some sort of crisis (losing your job, injuring yourself seriously and expensively, suffering a car breakdown, or so on) a well-funded savings account can get you through it while avoiding the drawbacks of going into debt. But how do you qualify "well-funded" in terms of a saving account? Saving the bare minimum The Federal Reserve Bank of New York holds a monthly Survey of Consumer Expectations in which it asks consumers various questions to determine their financial situation and expectations. One question on the survey asks whether the consumer would be able to come up with $2000 in cash if necessary. That's because the Federal Reserve Bank h

Buenos Aires prosecutor shuts down Misionbet gaming site Argentinean state-regulated iGaming site Misionbet.com.ar has reassured players about the security of their deposits after the site was taken offline Tuesday. The closure is described as temporary by El Instituto Provincial de Lotería y Casinos Sociedad del Estado (IPLyC), which operates the site in defiance of the national lottery association La Asociación de Loterías, Quinielas y Casinos Estatales de Argentina (ALEA). In order to first launch the site in December 2015, the provincial lottery association withdrew from the national association ALEA, complaining that it had done little to support efforts to regulate online gaming in the country while being blind to unlicensed offshore operators.
